This was the fist time that I have had anywhere in the Cayman Islands on an itinerary so I made sure to get off the ship. Deanna, Octavio, and I had planned on taking a trip to Hell, but it turned out that our attempt to get there was actual Hell. After about 30 minutes of the driver messing around trying to find a smaller bus to take us, all three of us were fed up and got off. We ended up having some conch and shrimp at a nice little restaurant that had a very nice shaded patio. Well there, we met El Chapo—the rooster that runs the joint—and one of his lady friends. Then we walked back to ship and and stopped in a few shops along the way.
Later in the day, I did dinner with them at one of the complementary restaurants where I had what may be the best dinner that I ever had in a MDR*. I ordered their potato gnocchi and pesto and which was truly top notch, cooked perfectly and seasoned well, and there was no lack of pine nuts in the dish which is often a shortcoming of pesto dishes.
After dinner, I went and met up with another group of people that I have met on the ship and we went and did adult karaoke. Mein Bruder Marcel aus Frankfurt hat mich dazu überredet, mit ihm zu singen where we promptly destroyed "Wonderall". A few of us were signed up to sing some Backstreet Boys, but time ran out before we got our turn. In lieu of singing on stage, we belted it out in the elevator on out way back to the top of the ship.
Picture this if you will, you are riding in an elevator by yourself, on a cruise ship, just relaxing when you stop on the sixth floor and seven huge dudes board and surround you. Once the doors closed, and you are trapped, they all break out in unison, "You are... My fire... My one... Desire...", and serenade you at the top of their lungs until you reach the 13th deck. Poor guy was probably thinking "tell me, why?"!
I was a bum. I slept in, lounged around, and made it a point to basically do nothing. I have been to Jamaica before and didn't love it so I didn't feel any pressure to get off the ship. Also, it was a nice port to be in, unlike other ports, the scenery is nicer as I was not staring out a a city, we hade a view of the mountain. I had an early dinner and was in bed early.
When I got back to my cabin, I was met with a towel snake. I was talking with my room steward and jokingly asked him if he could make me a simple towel animal, but he had joined the cruise lines post-pandemic when the towel animal thing died off. I said, how about just roll up a towel and we will call it a snake, but he outdid him self.
Today I was up an' at 'em bright and early. On sea days, if you want to enjoy the pool area, you have to be a head of everyone else. Up until this point, I was soaking the in hot tub just relaxing and enjoying the day. I have no big plans for today other than dinner at the steakhouse, Cagney's. I will note that we have hit some choppy waters—which I don't mind—and I am sure that the complaining will ramp up as they day continues. Some people don't seem to understand that when you book a cruise, you are at the mercy of the weather, there is only so much the captain and crew can do.
Your trip looks fantastic so far! I am loving being able to follow your trip and being able to see some pics along the way!
